Planishing

Planishing is when you make small hammer marks to create design and texture. A small ball or flat shaped planishing hammer will create circle indentations. The action of planishing is repetitive,  requiring patience and rhythm, over lapping each hammer mark to leave a uniformed pattern, where as using a hammer which is  thin can open up planishing patterns that are swirls or feathered and textured. Each hammer is different,some made by my father and grandfather, they are beautiful in there own right and are highly shiny which leaves the best mark on the copper.
